The HKJ Method is the guiding principle of our company. It is a philosophy we live by every day to ensure your experience with us is reliable, supportive, and unique.
The HKJ Method is comprised of eight fundamental business practices:
1. Nurturing a Base of Loyal, Dependable Sub-Contractors
Nurturing our subcontractor relationships is an ongoing, critical process. Maintaining a cadre of dependable, quality-driven subcontractors is critical to the success of our company. The qualities of our subcontractors impact the quality of the project, and we control this aspect of our projects very carefully. We scrutinize their management, their field supervision, their available manpower, and their capabilities before they are allowed on our project. On site, we closely coordinate and inspect their work and manage them efficiently to help them maintain profitability. We pay them promptly. We pride ourselves on the quality and care that goes into the selection of our subcontractors and the quality and care we devote to the relationship we maintain with each of these companies
2. Maintaining Employee Stability
We understand that workplace stability is a major factor in regards to employee morale and productivity. People who work together for years develop close working relationships and interactive communication skills. In addition, a workplace without fear of job loss enhances an industrious atmosphere and a creative environment. This leads to a cumulative knowledge base that is continually enhanced by the experience of each completed project and provides support for each new project.
3. Upholding Transparency Within the Company
Being transparent is a major part of our company’s culture. We are an open book and freely share information on a project with the client from start to finish.
4. Offering a Price Guarantee
Change orders can, and often do, come from other general contractors. HKJ is different. When we give an estimate, that is the price we expect to be paid. If we overlook something in the documents, we do not expect our clients to reimburse us. That is our price guarantee.
5. Approaching Projects With a Partnership Mentality
We are talented problem solvers who excel in every aspect of construction management, not finger pointers who look to blame others when a situation arises. We approach projects as partnerships. We work closely with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and inspectors to coordinate all projects for the good of the client. From day one, we will assist with the planning stage of a project and nurture it as our own until construction is complete. When you hire us to manage your project, you will have a general contractor who is your business partner and will continuously work to make your project a pleasant and successful experience.
6. Aggressively Incorporating New Technological Advantages to Building and Project Management
We are constantly seeking advancements in maintaining timely and frequent communication with our clients on an ongoing basis. We must ensure that our client has peace of mind with up-to-date information regarding the status of construction, the status of schedule, and the status of their budget throughout the entire project.
7. Incorporating Ecological and Sustainable Construction Practices
We are a member of both the U.S. and local Green Building Councils. We are also proud to be approved by the U.S. Department of Energy as a qualified Energy Star Partner. Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) is driving the green building industry. LEED is a program that provides third-party verification of green buildings and we have LEED Accredited Professionals (APs) on staff who can support your project team through the LEED design and construction process. We work closely with Home Energy Rating System (HERS) raters who can provide the required pre-construction consultation as well as the necessary testing to ensure compliance with all building requirements.
8. Implementing Continuing Education for HKJ Method Managers
Every HKJ project team brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to each new project we are awarded. Like compounding interest, as each project is completed, the results of that project is evaluated, added to our database and disseminated to our employees. Our processes, our subcontractor performance, our budgets, our schedule, our management styles, and our client satisfaction are reviewed and evaluated to glean how we may better serve our clients in the future. We must ensure that our clients benefit from the collective experiences of our entire company and not just the experience of one team member.
